Afghanistan’s first successful
Percutaneous Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a non-surgical
without anesthesia & cardiopulmonary bypass heart valve replacement
procedure was performed at Amiri Medical Complex by intervention cardiology
team led by Dr. Razmi Rahman, director Cath-lab with considerate support of
Prof. Dr. Ertugrul Okuyan (Turkish renowned intervention cardiologist). This
path-breaking and revolutionary procedure performed for a 60 years old man with
severe Aortic Stenosis (heavily calcified Bicuspid Aortic Valve) with a low
LVEF of 25%.
During the event CMD, Dr. Mirwais
Amiri praised his team and Turkish doctors for performing such sophisticated procedure
successfully for the first time in the medical history of Afghanistan. Also
valued visit of his excellency Dr. Wahid Majrooh the acting minister of MoPH to
AMC and commends his appreciation.
Dr. Wahid Majrooh the acting
minister of MoPH, said "We appreciate any positive action taken to improve
the health services in the country." I consider TAVI procedure by Afghan
doctors a great achievement and congratulate Amiri Medical Complex, private
health sector and the people of Afghanistan. He emphasized mutual acceptance, quality
and service improvement, harmony and praised public and private sectors that serving
our compatriots in the most difficult days. Also, Dr. Wahid provided
appreciation certificates to staff of Amiri Medical Complex.
